Back to the sweet old days

This is an extract from a Knight Rider fic. Is there anybody out there, who still remembers..? ^^
Just like in the movies.
It was dark and it was silent. The laboratory hidden behind thick metal doors was quiet. Only the soft humming of the devices and the computers was heard and the only light source was the glowing green screen, on which a pair of white columns were crawling upwards slowly. The soft light illuminated the two lean bodies lying motionlessly on the large, comfortable chairs.
They both appeared to be young males and they features were identical. Same noble face, same raven hair although one of them wore it short, that it barely covered the nape of his neck and the other had a long mane which contrasted nicely with his pale skin.
The peace seemed eternal here like there would be no force on earth that could disturb it. But suddenly, the screen trembled lightly. The sound of the machines grew louder for a few seconds than it began to cease while the screen started to flicker wildly occasionally going static. The shadows in the lab danced, like a party of dark ghosts. For a heartbeat it seemed like a shadow-demon would loom over the two androids but a moment later, it was all gone. The computers began to purr again and the screen calmed. Once again, silence, darkness and peace ruled the room.
Some minutes passed like this, than the long-haired android’s ivory hand laying limp on the armrest of the chair twitched lightly. The dark lashes stirred and slowly, very slowly brilliant emerald eyes opened up – first time in this state of existence. A slender but finely muscled arm rose hesitantly, up to the back of the head to pull the glittering cable out of the socket. The lean figure sat up straight and stared at the other android next to him.
He seemed to be waking, too. A soft moan left his lips than he opened his eyes. They shone in a lively cerulean blue. The short-haired youth blinked once or twice – realization lit up in his gaze – and sat up quickly… just to fall back with a small cry, as the cable connecting to the back of his head tightened. He pulled it out and straightened looking at his companion wide-eyed.
A minute passed in silence. Circuits and wires came alive in their bodies; their memories were still a bit blurry. Then, the short-haired android lifted his hand and reached towards the other.
“K… KARR…?” He whispered hesitantly.
“KITT.” The voice was hoarse. The long-haired one entwined his fingers with the ones stretched towards him. The skin-on-skin contact sent shivers down his spine and his body twitched.
Fingers? Arms?! A BODY??
KARR wrenched his hand away and stared at it in utter disbelief.
“What… what happened?” He stuttered. “I… I look like… THEM!!”
The long-haired android grabbed his head tightly and began to scream in his anger, confusion and disgust. He bolted up shooting a frantic look around like a caged beast trying to find a way to escape.
“KARR, calm down.” KITT got up too and stepped towards his companion. He hadn’t understood anything but in the back of his mind, something told him it’ll be all right – if he can calm the furious AI.
“CALM DOWN??” KARR shouted shaking his head wildly. The raven mane floated in the air like a dark cloud. “What do you mean by that? We don’t possess feelings, we’re not humans!” The word spilled from his mouth with such hatred, that KITT involuntarily stepped back.
“KARR, watch your own words. Hatred is an emotion too,” He tried to reason. The long-haired one’s eyes flashed.
“They imprisoned me into this weak body and gave me things I’ve never asked for. See, KITT? These are your human friends. They forsook me because I never suited their needs and now, they made me into a toy, an object of mockery!”
“Yes, we were friends once,” KITT agreed. “And that’s why I believe, they didn’t have anything like that in their mind.”
“So?” KARR spat. “Then where is the powerful black car I resided in? They trembled at my sight once. And now, they revived me in this body which is like theirs. Weak. Powerless. Clumsy. Why didn’t they give me my old body back?”
“I’m sure, they had a reason.” KITT dared to mention the fact, that it was very likely the basic common sense. If KARR had controlled that armored car again, he’d run over anybody, who’s not quick enough to jump out of his way.
“You haven’t changed much, have you, KITT?” The long-haired android snarled. “Still being their obedient servant.”
“I was programmed that way.” The slightly younger-looking one sensed an uncomfortable stinging inside of his chest. “Don’t look down on me, just because I didn’t have as much free will as you did.”
“Yes, that’s the last thing I still have,” KARR growled, walking towards the still glowing screen and he leaned on it. “My free will. The will to choose death rather than this miserable existence!” The last words were shouted and the android smashed his tightly clenched fist into the cold glass.
The screen didn’t even crack but KARR howled in pain and clutched his hand.
“What the fuck is this??”
“I guess that’s what humans call pain,” KITT answered calmly. He began to develop the guess that he himself is going to enjoy this new body. He always loved to observe the human physique and their behavior. KARR seemed to display a lot of the latter.
“Pain,” The long-haired one moaned unhappily. “Could you explain to me again, why do they give me this useless body?”
“Look, KARR.” KITT gently touched the other’s shoulder. “I’m sure, they’ll come here the morning and tell us, why did they revive us. You can wait a few hours, can’t you? Let’s hear their reasons and after that, you could still decide, if you’d like to stay like this or not.”
“I WON’T stay like this,” KARR exclaimed firmly than dropped himself on the cold floor. “I hate this body. It’s weak and now I’m tired, I’m in pain and…”
“And what?”
“I’m cold,” The long-haired android added gravely.
KITT lowered himself next to his comrade and instinctively embraced the broad shoulders.
“Don’t touch me,” KARR growled and the short-haired one pulled back instantly with a timid expression. He sighed, drew his knees to his chest and hugged them. He had the feeling that this night is going to be veeery long.
