Anyway, once Al flees the military, things between them change--friendship doesn't change, it just can't be openly public at the moment. Couple a months after military investigation into his workshop/home in Dublith since people know he and Fullmetal are close--given that it's conducted by Mustang, it's not particularly heavy exactly--Nicholas finally gets the letter he's been expecting from Al, just to lighten some concerns. (Picturing humorous 1st meeting between Lust!Scar and him at some point.)
Back to Nicholas and his daughters--need time to actually shape those girls' characters, I just have a sketchy outline of them--maybe provide a possible pathway to more parallels? Like say, Nicholas dies of a sickness as well, Al trains his left-behind children in alchemy, they attempt to resurrect their father...Greed full circle. (But, if I let the girls barely survive the transmutation, there's the chance of them living peacefully with Greed, since, well--my opinion on Greed, he's just the nicest Homunculus, period; so, they would get their father back in a way, but no important lesson learned--so yeah, gots to have my angst...if I ever went down that path, girls would end up dying in the process of bringing Greed to life.)
Side-notes on Nicholas' illness should he ever have one: keep thinking of long-term tuberculosis inspired by the Shinsengumi Samurai, Okita, also from Rurouni Kenshin; as far as I know of it, lots of painful coughing up blood coupled with a slow death...and I'd have to do more research on it should I decide to go down that path too.
