Jul. 2nd, 2009 01:53 amSO, in the last battle about fanarts-used-as-icons. I pointed out that an artist's work cannot be used without his or her permission. Copyright Law 101. My opponent countered with the usual reply, that according to this logic, fanarts, as such, are unlawful as well. What could I do, I nodded that yes, essentially the ARE, and pointed out the Wiki article, which, while shorter than it should be, offers a way out, declaring that fanart could be classified as derivative work. It also mentions that unauthorized usage of derivative work IS unlawful.
