I strongly hope, this will look like I planned. First try with richtext mode, you know. If it looks bad, blame the penguin. Edited. ^^

Disclaimer: World & characters are the property of Arakawa Hiromu and Square/Enix. However, the fic itself belongs to me (OKami). I have to stress that – sadly – I’m not making any money from this.

Rating: NC-17. I love lemon juice.

Warnings: kind of a pwp with some interesting bits of information

Pairing: Hughes x Roy

Note: Since I haven’t seen anything about this couple which was deeper than a PG, I decided to do it myself. To tell the truth, I’m not fully pleased by it; the guys were shy and it didn’t turn out as juicy as I planned. Anyway. If you see italic, that’s a flashback. I wanted to write a fic about how *I* imagine Roy’s family and past life; but the details just sneaked into this story. ~shrugs~ Such is life. Besides, I think, Roy Mustang himself is actually the FMA-world’s biggest plot hole.

Secret Love

„God, Hughes! It’s quarter to ten!! We’re late!”

“Hey, calm down.” Sergeant Major Hughes just shrugged and grinned at his comrade. “Relax, Roy.”

“As soon as you tell me, where will I spend this night,” Sergeant Roy Mustang growled “I’ll relax, I promise. And you shouldn’t forget about Lieutenant Horst either. He’ll murder us if he finds out that we were late.”

“Do not worry about him.” Hughes took his coat and paid for the drinks. “If we’ll be back in time in the morning, he can’t punish us. We’re off duty, remember? We can spend the night wherever we will.”

“And where are we going? Under the bridge?” Roy was still skeptical. Hughes shook his head. His friend was smart, a good alchemist and a really charming gentleman but he worried too much.

“I’ll take you home.”

“Eh?” Roy blinked. His dark eyes sparkled in the light of the streetlamps.

Hughes laughed.

“I don’t talk about it usually; but I have a house in the city. I just don’t use it.”

“A house?” Roy’s eyes turned curious. “How come? And why don’t you use it? If I had a house, I’d surely live there instead of the dorm…”

“Let me answer the questions one by one.” Hughes casually draped one arm around his comrade’s shoulder. He immediately felt the stiff shoulders to relax and as always, the knowledge, that his touch has such an effect on the handsome young sergeant, made him feel proud.

“The house belonged to my parents. As you know, they died in an accident, when I was fifteen. For three years, I lived there with my grandfather, and then he passed away too. After that, I moved into the dorm. That way, I don’t have to walk. The house is too big for just one person anyway. When I find a nice girl, I’ll move back. It’ll be fun to renovate then! I already know where the children’s room should be…

Roy looked away. He hated, when Hughes began to ramble about family and kids. Of course, he knew that he shouldn’t be angry. They settled this in the beginning.

*****

“I… I love you.”

The young soldier stood there, face burning from shame, head bowed deeply, like he would be expecting a punch or a furious outburst. But instead of it, a gentle hand raised his head. Those green eyes shone so softly in the afternoon light and the black hair gained copper light-reflexes.

“Don’t worry.” The quiet words came. “I love you too. Maybe not in the way as you do, but I definitely love you.

“Hughes…!”

“Hey, there, there.” The taller youth embraced his weeping comrade. “Don’t cry. I’ll go out with you gladly. But there is one thing you should know.”

Black eyes blinked up, filled with tears but shining clearly. Hughes stroked the smaller soldier’s hair.

“I’m not in love with you. I love you more than a friend but this doesn’t mean that our relationship will last forever. I want to have a family, a wife and kids… So one day, we have to part. I hope that our friendship will last until our dying day but when I find a nice girl, I’ll leave you. Will you be able to let me go?”

Roy closed his eyes. He suspected something like that. But they’re young; there’s so much time and besides…

“I love you with all my heart.” He whispered. “I want only the best for you so when you get married, I wanna be your best man.”

The green eyes sparkled and Hughes placed a kiss on the top of Roy’s head.

“Thank you.”

Then, he captured his comrade’s lips in a passionate kiss.

*****

“Roy! Hey, are you listening?”

“Um, what…? Oh, sorry, I was daydreaming.”

Hughes stopped.

“You’re angry with me, right? You don’t like it when I talk about family.”

“I keep my promises.” Roy’s gaze was clear and honest. “But true…” He lowered his head. “I’m jealous.”

“Aww…” The taller youth’s eyes began to sparkle and he hugged his comrade close. “You’re so cute when you’re moping, do you know that?”

“Hughes… public domain… lemmego…”

“Okay, okay.” The slightly older soldier released his friend and smiled at him. It was amazing, how fast he was able to switch between behaving like an enthusiastic child and acting all serious and calm.

“Let me make up to you.” He said quietly. “Tonight, I’m all yours, okay?”

Roy felt like a tiny lightning would race through his body, setting his nerves on fire.

“Would you mind, if I preferred the other way…?

“Of course not. Let’s go.”

***

Hughes’s house was big indeed. Roy looked around and a smile crept on his lips; the whole building felt warm and alive despite of the darkness and the thin layer of dust that covered everything. The taller youth switched on the light and beckoned to his comrade to follow. Room after room, clearly out of use; the furniture was covered with large sheets but pictures hung on the wall and small trinkets stood on the fireplace. Everything felt like Hughes; so intense, so warm, so alive.

“How do you like it?”

“It’s really cozy.” Roy briefly remembered his own home; how dark, cold and lifeless it was even with a family residing there.

“Thanks!” The older one grinned and pointed towards the fireplace. “Would you lend me a hand?”

Roy laughed and knelt down to light the fire. He had to admit that he was a bit of a pyromaniac; he loved to ignite the flames with alchemy and always carried a box of matches with.

The wood caught fire immediately, and cracked merrily. Hughes pulled the sheet from the big couch and disappeared briefly; Roy assumed, he wanted to shake it out. The younger soldier settled down and began to shed down his uniform jacket and his black boots.

When the green-eyed soldier returned, Roy was sitting in front of the fire and gazed into the flames. Hughes spread the sheet on the floor and embraced his comrade from behind. The young sergeant sighed and leaned back. In his lover’s arms, he felt secure, and the sight of the fire always soothed his nerves. It was strange; it made him the black sheep of the family.

*****

“Young Master, the dinner is served.”

Roy made a face. Boris, the old butler insisted on calling him like this. Roy hated it. He hated to be the young, hated to be the master and definitely hated to be a Mustang.

He sighed and placed the alchemy textbook to the side. For a brief moment, he wondered if he should say that he doesn’t feel well and let the servants bring him the food – he really didn’t want to leave his warm room – but he knew that it would cause him trouble.

As he trotted down on the long stairway, he felt the chill creeping into his bones. It was raining outside; Roy had the feeling, it always rained on their estate. He hated the rain.

The dinner was boring as always. The food was good of course but there wasn’t even a single word spoken; the head of the family didn’t appreciate talking during the meals. Only after the dessert; but those conversations were painfully formal too. The usual topics included “what did you spend your day with”, “what are the news in the world” and “Roy, it’s high time that you start consider your future career”.

Roy hated to think about the future. He was only fifteen after all! Other kids played outside, had friends and waited for the girls in front of the village store.

Although, today was special; every Mustang was home. The father, Conrad Mustang, the famous and wealthy businessman smiled on his sons proudly.

“Well,” he began after clearing his throat “How was your trip, William?”

The eldest Mustang-son replied politely.

“It was a great success. I managed to transact a very profitable business with Mr. Loewe…”

Roy chewed on a piece of apple pie. Business, sure. William was Father’s favorite; he’ll be the one who inherits the estate, the stocks and the whole lot.

“And you, Alfred?” He heard his father’s voice again. “Where have you been exactly?”

“I escorted Major General Travis to the Eastern Region. There were some problems with our ambassador. That idiot messed up everything; we were hardly able to calm down the locals…”

Splendid. Alfred, the Great Ambassador has some news about the outside world. Roy actually liked to hear about foreign places, and he was interested in politics, the motives behind people’s actions but Alfred was so self-asserted, so proud of himself! One needed a dictionary to understand him.

“And what about you, Gabriel?”

“I was promoted to Sergeant Major.”

Gabriel joined the military two years ago and he was climbing upwards on the ladder fast. He was the only male member of the family, whom Roy actually liked. Gabriel was cheerful and energetic, yet disciplined enough to hide his true nature from the others. Roy was his opposite; when his long-contained anger burst out, nobody could stop him. Gabriel sometimes tried to convince him, that he shouldn’t talk back to their father, but Roy never listened; he simply couldn’t hold back his offending – albeit witty – comments.

“Roy. What did you spent your day with?”

Oh, dear, here it goes. Roy smirked a little then replied innocently.

“I spent my whole day studying, Father; I finally managed to understand, what role the equilateral triangles in an alchemical array play when adjusting an element’s thickness.”

The look on Conrad Mustang’s face spoke volumes. He never studied alchemy – probably had no talent for it anyway – and he looked down on alchemists, saying that they are lazy, trying to do the work the easy way.

“Son, I’d feel much more relieved if you were spending your time with something useful. Do you have any idea, what will you do with your life?”

“I’ll join the army.”

The silence, which followed the words, was amazing. Everybody was staring at Roy, who swallowed a little. He just blurted out something to make his father drop the topic.

“Hey, that’s not a bad idea.” Gabriel collected his thoughts first. “I can arrange that. As soon as you turn eighteen, you can join. Alchemists are highly appreciated in the military; you could later become a state alchemist.”

“Thank you, brother. Now, if you excuse me…” Roy stood up and bowed lightly “I’m tired, I’d like to go to sleep. Good night, Father. Mother…” And he left.

He was sitting in front of the fireplace when his mother’s light knocks sounded on the door. The beautiful dark blonde woman walked in and quietly settled next to his son.

Emily’s marriage with the wealthy Mustang was arranged. She actually liked her husband but definitely wasn’t in love with him. Conrad did everything to keep her happy and Emily remained faithful to him during the years; but she ached for love. Her first and second son took after their father and Conrad’s influence turned them cold and serious at an early age. Gabriel was the one, who brought sunlight into her life; but as soon as he turned fourteen, he already knew, that he wants to be a soldier and he became estranged from his mother.

Roy was Emily’s last hope. Finally, a child, who was warm, like fire and loved her dearly!

True, Roy loved his mother. She always protected him and understood him, secretly encouraging his studies in alchemy.

Emily put her arm around his son’s shoulder.

“You can still reconsider.”

“I don’t want to.” Roy said darkly. “The promise had been spoken; Father won’t appreciate if I changed my word. And besides; I could finally get away from here.”

The woman said nothing. She understood.

“Being a state alchemist is an important job.” Roy mused. “I could be a researcher.”

“With your passion for fire? I don’t think so.” Emily laughed a little. “You’ll be a fighter; your spirit drives you into battles. Roy, my dear, I love you and I only want the best for you. But I’m worried. I don’t want to lose you in some meaningless war. If you want to be a soldier, I won’t stop you, but please, promise me that you’ll be careful.”

“Don’t worry, Mother.” Roy smiled. “I’ll just quickly become a General and then, I’ll retire.”

They both laughed; then the boy laid his head on his mother’s lap. They gazed into the fire for a while then Emily spoke up.

“Have I ever told you, that as a little girl, I played with the matches and I nearly burned down the stable?”

“No.”

“Oh, then listen. So, I was befriended with the gardener’s son...”

*****

“Roy? Are you crying…?”

The young Sergeant sniffed.

“Um… no… I just… thought on Mother.”

Hughes hugged his companion tighter and stroked his hair compassionately. Three months ago, Roy received a letter about his Mother’s death.

“She… loved to watch the flames too.” Roy murmured. “I loved her so much… Y’know… The only person I love just as much as her, is you.”

“You love me like your mother? Mustang, that’s just sick!” Hughes snorted in mock disgust. Roy laughed and turned in his lover’s arms, kissing him.

“Does my Mommy wanna do her little boy?” He teased with an evil smirk.

“Mustang, this is really sick.” Hughes exclaimed, gently pushing Roy down to the floor. “I prefer to, uh, “do” you the manly way.”

“No objections.” Roy held up his hands, letting the older man to unbutton his shirt. When Hughes began to shower his exposed chest with small kisses, the black-eyed youth sighed. Strong hands stripped him off of his uniform and roamed on his skin. He did his best to return the favor, although it was a difficult job. But in the end, they both managed to shed down all of their clothes. Hughes carefully placed his glasses aside then pulled his friend into a passionate kiss. Meanwhile, he kept on caressing Roy’s bare skin. He already knew about all of his friend’s sensitive spots. The green-eyed soldier often likened his companion to an instrument; if manipulated carefully, the smaller youth “sang” the sweetest melodies.

Roy closed his eyes and tried to concentrate on his own hands; he loved touching his beloved, it gave him the feeling of safety and contentedness. And it made him feel proud when his efforts were rewarded with sighs and moans

Lean, young bodies pressed against each other, one pale and one slightly darker; heated skin touched heated skin. The fire’s light cast orange shadows on their entwined forms, enhancing their beauty.

Roy was already in the state of that certain pleasant dizziness from his friend’s feather-light caresses, when Hughes leaned to his ears.

“Roy…”

“Yeah…?”

“I thought on something… how about you being on top tonight?”

“I told you that I’m perfectly fine the way we always do it.”

“No, I meant… Eh, you know, the way women use to be on the top.”

“Oooh…” Roy blinked as he understood what his friend meant. “Uh, well, okay.”

Hughes lay down and Roy straddled his waist. He never was in this position before; he let his comrade get the upper hand since Hughes was taller, older and in higher rank. But now, as Roy looked down on his beloved, a certain feel of power filled him. He ran his hands down on the broad chest, savoring the sight of the wonderful body under him.

The green-eyed youth pressed his palms against the pale thighs and slid them upwards on the slender hips and waist. Roy’s skin was smooth and hot, and the way his back arched from the touch’s pleasure… it was adorable.

Their members rubbed against each other gently, chasing them further into that sweet madness. After a few minutes, both soldiers reached out to touch the other. Hands met, enclosing hard pieces of flesh. Roy always loved the feeling of being touched and to touch this intimately. Hughes truly had a wonderful body and the younger one never grew tired of it.

“Roy… please…”

The black-eyed youth obeyed the silent plea. He rose a little, then slowly settled back, guiding his lover’s manhood into his body.

Hughes closed his eyes and took a sharp intake of breath as he felt himself nestled inside that tight heat. It felt so good…

Roy nearly started to weep from pure bliss. It felt like Heaven, to be one with the person he loved the most. This time, it was more intense that ever before. The younger soldier gritted his teeth and tried desperately to fight off the pleasure, which threatened with overflowing. He didn’t want to ruin this perfect moment.

For a few minutes, both of them remained motionless. Then, Roy leaned forward a little, placing his hands on his friend’s chest for support; and Hughes grabbed the younger one’s hips, to pull him even closer.

The sound of heavy breathing, sighs and low moans filled the room. Their bodies glistened with sweat in the light of the fire. The movements were gentle and slow; they both wanted to last as long as it was possible.

Roy was gasping for air; he could feel his lover moving deep inside his body, touching spots, which were in direct connection with the black-eyed youth’s soul. The world went blurry before his eyes then stopped to exist completely; he was only aware of the burning skin under his palm, the flames raging in his groin and the distant but familiar voice repeating his name.

“Roy… Oh, God, Roy…”

The movements began to quicken as the storm neared its breaking point. Faster and faster, harder and harder, wilder and wilder…

“H… Hugh…” Roy couldn’t gather enough air to say his lover’s name properly. The pleasure was so intense; it came dangerously close to pain. The younger soldier knew that he can’t last for long…

Suddenly, he felt a hand grabbing his manhood and squeezing it tightly. Roy’s eyes snapped open, his back arched like a bow and he screamed helplessly as the tsunami of pleasure crushed down on him, crumbling away his consciousness. He felt the warm seed of his friend to fill him and he cried out again, before collapsing on top of Hughes’s body, shaking violently from the exquisite shock.

“Roy! God, Roy, are you all right?!”

Huh? The smaller youth blinked up and shook his head to clear his vision. He found himself staring into his best friend’s worried eyes.

“Hughes…? Did I pass out…?”

“No, I guess, not, but you looked a little out of it… Are you okay?”

“No. “Okay” is not the proper word. I feel like I had died and gone to Heaven.”

The green-eyed soldier laughed a little and gently peeled his friend off of him, just to close the slightly smaller body into his arms again.

“I have to admit that this was truly amazing.”

“Hughes…”

“Hmm?”

“I love you.”

The older one smiled gently.

“I love you too, my beautiful black Mustang.”

“HUH?”

Hughes’s laughter rang out, mixing with Roy’s half-hearted protests. If the walls have ears, they surely found delight in tonight’s events; however, the secret of the two soldier’s love was safe in their keeping.
