A warm breeze blew through the streets of Central when Liza Hawkeye stepped out of her house. She was dressed in a blue skirt and a white shirt, made of a rather flimsy cloth that left her arms bare. Her hair, for once loose and only held back by a thin, silver band. Her whole appearance suggested she would go out on a date this night. Those who knew her, however, would be surprised by her choice of partner.
A black car was waiting for her and the driver waved to her with a smile. The dark suit hugged a lean, although not too tall body. A white hand was held out after the door opened, inviting Liza into the vehicle. "You look dazzling tonight, darling."
"Thank you, love," she smiled back. "You don't look bad either. Those clothes suit you well, you know."
The driver nodded with a smile. "Why, thank you. But, let's go. I've reserved a quiet table in a nice restaurant. You'll like it."
"I look forward to it. But first..." She didn't finish her sentence, simply bent towards the driver and placed a small kiss on the cheek.
The other one smiled and started the engine. The black car purred like a panther and it run along the dark streets with a nice speed.
The driver kept casting admiring glances at Liza for a while. "Um, I don't know if it's proper to ask but... would you place your hand on my knee...?
"Maria," Liza said firmly, "as long as we're having this relationship, nothing like that is improper to ask, just as long as you don't ask it during work. She placed her hand on the driver's knee. "And you know I'll do most of the things for you, if it makes you happy."
Ross giggled a little and turned her attention to the street. She didn't lie; Liza's touch felt indeed good.
After some thirty minutes, they reached the outskirt of the city and Ross stopped the car in front of a friendly-looking restaurant. Soft music seeped from the inside. Maria got out and opened the door to Liza. "We're here."
"It doesn't look like a bad place, does it?" Liza observed as she got out of the car. She put her hand lightly on Ross' arm. "Will you guide me, my love?" she murmured in her ear.
"Of course." The lieutenant straightened and walked in, like a proud man should when he's showing off his beautiful lover to the world.
They fooled the waiter, who hurried out and greeted them. "Sir, my lady... Do you have a reservation?"
"Yes, we do. For the name of Mario Ross."
"This way then, please."
Liza had to suppress her mirth when she heard that and managed to keep her face straight until they were alone again. "Mario Ross?"
"Well..." Ross looked smugly "I wanted to do this properly. You can always say you went out with my brother..."
Liza laughed at that and pulled the other woman closer for a deep kiss. A polite coughing interrupted the kiss, however, and she let quickly go of Ross, blushing slightly.
"The menus, sir, my lady," the waiter told them.
"Thank you." Ross nodded with an absolutely straight face and took hers. "Please, bring us a bottle of wine. Something red; I'll trust your judgment."
The waiter smiled at the compliment and walked off. Maria winked at Liza. "Well then, let's decide."
"You're very good at this," the blond woman told her admiringly. "Do you have more experience with it?"
"I'm good at improvising."
Liza giggled. "Ah... I see. Let's see what's on the menu, alright?"
Some five minutes later, the ladies ordered the meals and as soon as the waiter left, Ross held up her glass. "For you, my dearest."
Liza returned the gesture. "And to you, my love." She took a small sip from her wine.
The meals arrived soon and the conversation turned to casual things. After they finished the dessert, Maria couldn't resist the opportunity. "Would you dance with me?" And she held out a hand for Liza.
"D-dance?" She looked at all the other guests, unsure about whether or not she should accept this offer. It was probably the wine that made her disband her usual stiffness and she nodded while she accepted Maria's hand. "If you want that," she smiled.
Ross walked to the middle and put a hand around Liza's waist; her other hand grabbed the blonde's hand. Then, the black-haired woman started to lead, taking up on the rhythm easily.
Liza smiled and let herself be guided by Ross. She had had dancing lessons when she was younger, but she noticed she wasn't as good anymore as she used to be. Under Maria's gentle lead, however, she quickly picked it up again and she smiled up at her lover. "You're a good dancer," she murmured.
"You can do it well too" Maria smiled back.
The other guests looked at the couple with smiles; a few of them even stood up to join too.
"We have fans," Liza giggled softly. "Look at how many people are watching us." She placed her head against Maria's shoulder. "I wonder what they are thinking of us now," she mused.
"Perhaps, that we look nice like this." Maria laughed softly. "But I guess, we can go now." She led Liza back, placed the money on the table with a generous tip and took the blonde by the arm. "I'll drive you home."
"That would be nice."
The car slowed down and it stopped in front of Liza's house. Maria smiled on her. "Here we are."
"Yes." She glanced aside at the dark woman. "Would you like to come inside?"
Ross nodded slowly. "I'd be honored."
Liza got out of the car and walked to the door, which she held invitingly open to Ross.
Maria stepped in and a quick thought crossed her mind; namely, that this date was really like it was supposed to be.
